In Love Finds You In Last Chance, California, Miralee Ferrell has proven herself as a Christian author who knows horses and can write about them accurately in a novel. The only thing that stumped me was the front cover. The main character was depicted on a horse with English tack. "Oh no!" I thought. "Alex Travers should have been riding in a western saddle with a different bit if she's going to be managing a horse ranch in mountain lion country. No wonder Justin Phillips thought her odd to be wearing men's britches when he rolled into town with his three-yr-old son. There's also a saddle issue." I continued reading. I soon found out why. Miralee adeptly wove the reason for the English saddle into a story filled with suspense, intrigue, and fine horse flesh. You'll have to read the book to discover the answer! A yarn that takes place in gold country, Last Chance is a tender 1877 love story with characters who are real - some jaded and seemingly lost. Can they be found in a wilderness where the setting is as much a character as the people who live in the tiny town? Will Alex be able to hang onto her ranch without her father? Will gold be found in the end - or what really matters - finding her true Father? I recommend this book be read with a tall glass of ice cubed tea. You'll be needing it when it comes time to "head 'em up and move 'em out." The journey can get mighty dusty but you'll enjoy the ride. Yee-haw and happy trails!
